Tyrannosaurs: A Diverse Group of Prehistoric Predators

Tyrannosaurs were a remarkably diverse group of carnivorous dinosaurs that thrived in the Northern Hemisphere for over 100 million years during the Jurassic and Cretaceous Periods (from 165 to 66 million years ago). Unlike what we commonly imagine, not all tyrannosaurs resembled the iconic T. rex. Their characteristics varied greatly, yet they all shared some common features: massive skulls, powerful jaws, two heavy-duty legs, and two comparatively tiny arms equipped with bone-crunching teeth.

During their reign, some members of this group rose to become the apex predators of the time. Their dominance was only interrupted by a mass extinction event.
